Madhav National Park, formerly a popular hunting site for Mughal emperors and Maratha royals, is today a magnificent wildlife refuge in the Shivpuri region of Madhya Pradesh, Central India. This beautiful stretch of wilderness, which covers 354 square kilometres, offers breathtaking vistas of lush foliage and architectural marvels built by the ancient kings of Gwalior. This park has seen several royal movements since the reign of Akbar, who is said to have taken elephants from here in 1564. Madhav National Park captivates visitors with its unusual settings, which include lakes, lush woods, and castles.

Tourist Attractions:

  • George Palace: Jivaji Rao Scindia erected this exquisite castle in 1911 for British King George V to make plans for his stay in the jungle. Though he never remained here, this location was frequently utilised as a hunting camp by members of the British Army and Royal families. The castle is constructed high in the jungle and provides breathtaking views of the lake, especially at sunset and dawn.
  • Sakhya Sagar Lake & Sailing Club: Visitors to this lake may enjoy boating and bird viewing while riding along the water, surrounded by diverse flora. This lake is an important biodiversity support system, providing a diverse habitat for reptiles and birds. The marsh or mugger crocodile, Indian python, and monitor lizard are among the notable reptile species that may be found here.
