Bandipur National Park

The protected areas of Bandipur, Nagarhole, Mudumalai National Park, and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary form the biggest protected area in southern India. Elephants and tigers are two of the endangered animals that India is working to save. The parks together preserve 843 square miles (2,183 square kilometres) of habitat.

The bulk of the vegetation in the park is dry deciduous woodland, however there are other biomes present. The park’s terrain consists of moist deciduous woods, shrublands, riverbeds, and plateaus.

Gopalaswamy, Himavad The highest peak in the park is Betta. A Hindu temple is situated nearby, offering a cultural and historical dimension to your environmental experience.

The abundance of dry and wet deciduous woods, as well as other supporting plants, creates a wonderful home for animals. The majority of visitors to the national park come to see the wildlife.

Over the last several years, the tiger population has increased and repopulated. Although Bandipur has the second biggest tiger population, they might be difficult to see due to the extensive forest. Other endangered species found in the park include Indian elephants, sloth bears, jackals, four-horned antelope, gaur, and the Indian giant squirrel.

Popular species to expect to see include Indian elephants, grey langurs, chital, and Indian giant squirrels. Visitors may also expect to see tiger, leopard, gaur, sambar deer, sloth bear, wild boar, muntjac, and four-horned antelope.

Many people hope they never encounter these species, but Bandipur is also home to the Indian rock python, spectacled cobra, numerous vipers, monitor lizards, flying lizards, and the Indian chameleon. Some species may be more appealing to observe than others.

Bandipur is home to nearly 200 different bird species. The most probable species to be sighted are peafowl and jungle fowl. Some of the most sought-after sightings are Indian rollers, bee-eaters, kingfishers, osprey, and changeable hawk-eagles.
