Demarcating Nepal and India, the Mahakali flows past a kaleidoscopic landscape. The river and our rafts flow past terraced hills of Nepal and Kumaoni villages, distinctive from each other in architecture and people.

Passing thick tropical jungles, fresh water springs and streams, plantations and fig trees. Spotting Deer, Ghoral and Monkeys who come down to the banks of the river for a drink of water. Meandering past the old forgotten temples and others which are at the centre of the hub of village activity. A trip on the Kali / Sarda river offers us a variety of experiences which are impossible to savor on a drive through the countryside and the opportunity of some great mahaseer fishing.

Day 01 : Delhi - Kathgodam : Overnight train from Delhi to Kathgodam

Day 02 : Drive Kathgodam to Pithoragarh (approx 07 hrs drive) Overnight at the Askot Rest House in the lap of the Kumaon Himalaya, with magnificent views of the Panchuli range of mountains.

Day 03 : Drive Pithoragarh to put-in point at Jhulaghat (approx 2 hrs drive). Raft approx. 15 river kms through an initiation stretch with class II + rapids, passing awe inspiring stalactite and stalagmite formations.
Camp by late afternoon on a beautiful sand bank and hike to nearby village.

Day 04 : We continue our river journey through picturisque countryside. The Kali confluences with the Sarju river to form the Sarda at Pancheshwar, famous for sport fishing for Mahseer. We camp just below the confluence foran afternoon of angling delight.

Day 05 : The river picks up pace as we go through a series of class III rapids amidst thick jungles and a lesser inhabited stretch of the river. Camp overnight at a beautiful sandy beach near a fresh water spring.

Day 06 : We take a rest from rafting and explore the surrounding countryside carrying a packed lunch.

Day 07 : We raft another 20 kms today negotiating the mighty Chooka rapid, class IV. We camp just below the rapid.

Day 08 : Great white water day with plenty of rapids surrounded by the thick terai jungles. If we are lucky we may spot a wild elephant. We finish our expedition atBoom. Drive on to Kathgodam by late evening to board the overnight Ranikhet Express back to Delhi.
