A self contained multi day trip down the
Alaknanda and Ganga rivers. All food, camping
personal gear is carried on the rafts - there
being no road support on the Alaknanda section
of the river. The trip starts from the town
of Rudraprayag situated at the confluence
of the Mandakini and the Alaknanda rivers,
139 kms beyond Rishikesh . The towns claim
to fame is the infamous man -eating leopard
of Rudraprayag, shot here by Jim Corbett in
1932. ( Ref. Corbett book - Man eating Leopard
of Rudraprayag).
The
Alaknanda offers a Grade III run through it's
beautiful gorge and valley - steep wooded
hillsides, deserted coves of sparkling sand
to camp on, textured rock cliffs, old temple
towns and little villages. This is an enchanting
trip, suitable even for the first timer. Offering
white water excitement aswell as the feel
of the great river and itís environs.
All participants are required to pitch in
and help with setting up camps and preparing
rafts etc. during the self contained days
of the trip, till such time as we reach the
luxuries of Base Camp.
ITINERARY : OPTIONS FOR TRAVELLING
TO RUDRAPRAYAG:
Day 01 : Delhi to Hardwar
by the Shatabdi Express, departs Delhi 0700
hrs. Arrives Hardwar 1100 hrs. Drive 4/5 hrs
to Rudraprayag The first night is spent at
the Tourist Rest House in Rudraprayag, rafts
and gear is prepared for the trip. At this
stage all personal gear is sorted and only
minimum necessities are packed in waterproof
kit bags. All excess gear is sent back by
road to Base Camp which we reach on Day 04
of the trip.
Day 02: The raft trip begins
with a series of Grade III rapids which initiate
you to the cold water. After the first 5 kms
there is time to relax a little and soak in
the sun until the next lot of rapids. We cover
approximately 25 river kms, try and spot wildlife
on hillsides, stop at a waterfall, find drift
wood dumps and collect the evening stock of
fire wood. Lunch is a picnic style meal which
we stop enroute for or wait till we reach
a campsite, depending on the time we are making
on that particular day. We camp on a secluded
river beach for the night.

Day 03 : The expedition continues
past Devprayag, the confluence of the
Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers. Downstream
of this point the river is
called the Ganga. We cover another approximately
30 river kms and camp on another lovely sand
Bank.
Day 04 : A relaxed day with
few rapids, affording a fair opportunity of
seeing wildlife on the mountain sides in this
secluded part of the valley. Lots of swimming
and body surfing till we reach Kaudiyala.
At this point we hit the first big white water
on the Ganga section with Daniels Dip Grade
III, soon to be followed by The Wall Grade
VI, this is a rapid that is the nemesis of
many a river guide, it's adrenaline pumping
excitement rafts you into the comforts of
Base Camp. A leisurely evening around the
bonfire. Camp overnight.
Day 05 : Raft run from Camp
to down to Rishikesh a day of white water
at it's best. Grade III & IV challengers
like Roller coaster and Golf course keep the
adrenaline pumping, we have a river lunch
enroute. At the end of
the run . Drive down to Haridwar to catch
the Shatabdi Express back to Delhi. Departs
Haridwar 1800 hrs arrives Delhi 2125 hrs.
